A good doctor

I was just wondering what I should write for the first time in my Blog! Since I am an eye specialist with special interest in retinal disorders, I thought I will write about what a good doctor is like? To be precise, if I fall sick, what will I expect in a doctor

  • The first thing I feel a good doctor should have time for you.
  • He should be in full attention when you are conversing with him.
  • He should take active interest in your problem.
  • He should have time to go through all your papers of the past'
  • He should have a proper examination method, No short cuts!
  • He should always use analytical part of his brain to find and do specific tests required for your complaint with rational for it.
  •  He should be good at clinical acumen and well read with modern science.
  • He should know his limitations and should be a good surgeon respecting live human tissues.
  •  He should be honest and transparent in his dealings.
  •  He can collect his usual charges but be considerate to those who are underprivileged.
  • He should treat every patient as his own close relative.

I Arun Kantilal Parekh of 85, New Navrang Society, Peddar road, Mumbai-400026 had undergone lensectomy vitrectomy PHF removal ERM removal FGE BB C3F8 injection done in right eye for macular hole on 20.02.2003. Then on 24.03.2009, I had retinal detachment in right eye, so on 25.03.2009, I had undergone 3 port vitrectomy with silicon oil injection done in right eye by Dr.Vatsal S. Parikh. My retina was practically attached but silicon oil was coming out to cornea and I was very much disturbed because of constant watering of the eye and I was also very uncomfortable. Then I was sent to all the leading eye surgeons of the country and no remedy was found. Ultimately Dr. Vatsal S. Parikh did a corrective surgery by which oil coming to the cornea was partially stopped and I have now more than 60% comfort level on my operated right eye. I give my thanks to Shri Vatsal S. Parikh. Doctor I want to tell all those who read this that all doctors should discuss the problems of the patients with them to their satisfaction. Doctor should be like a friend to the patient
